Final Reflection

This first semester of Japanese has been quite a journey, and looking back in preparation for the upcoming finals, I can see how substantial this course is and just how much ground we have covered such as the vocabulary and the grammatical constructions.

My Japanese writing and reading have certainly improved greatly from the beginning of term but one thing that is tricky even now for me is speaking (I guess this is the same for most people though). I feel as though my intonation and speed has definitely sewen an improvement though I do still forget word pitches and go with what sounds natural sometimes... a work in progress.

PE has certainly helped to build that speaking foundation and the shadowing of familiar animes has been a fun and useful tool. The computer lab session where we went through word pitches of some common words with Shibata Sensei was also good in placing an emphasis on correct pronunciation.

I was able to achieve some of my goals, but a few that I wish I had been able to do more of was attending language table and also making use of office hours to consolidate the things that I had learned and covered in class.

Overall, I have enjoyed this semester of JPN101. I've found it to be hard work at times but it really is a great language!
